Fundraiser for Steelo Vazquez | News

Many fans may remember the very talented dancer Steelo Vazquez who was featured in Gwen's Early Winter video and also performed with her during The Sweet Escape Tour. Steelo recently suffered a life-threatening injury and the Los Angeles dance community is hosting a fundraiser on December 6th to benefit his recovery.

On June 19th, Steelo suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm and had to undergo emergency surgery. During the operation and subsequent surgeries, Steelo suffered four additional ruptures and lost his ability to walk and speak. Today, Steelo remains in an extensive rehabilitation program where doctors are helping him relearn basic functions. His wife Penelope has constantly been by his side during the slow recovery in ICU. It was actually during a show on Gwen’s tour that Steelo proposed to his now wife, Penelope Vazquez. Their son just celebrated his 1st birthday.

Steelo’s friends, family and doctors are hopeful that through therapy he will make a full recovery over time.

On December 6th at the Saban Theater in Beverly Hills there will be an event to raise money for Steelo's medical costs and to help support his wife and young son. The event will feature performances from some of the biggest names in the dance community including Jabbawockeez (MTV's America's Best Dance Crew), Twitch (So You Think You Can Dance,) Team iLLuminate (America's Got Talent) and Beat Freaks (featuring Music from the Harajuku Girls.) There will be a raffle and silent auction as well, including items from Gwen and No Doubt.

To make room for new stuff, No Doubt's touring crew recently went through the band's warehouse and cleared out a bunch of gear, equipment and props the band no longer need. These items are being listed on eBay HERE by seller dvamp2u (the only legitimate seller of this gear). A number of items such as amplifiers, keyboards, rack/outboard gear, guitar effects, pedal boards, staging, props, back drops and road cases will be listed over the next few weeks. Check the eBay page regularly for new listings. Unless specified, we cannot identify which (if any) tour these items are from, nor can we accommodate any requests to get items autographed or authenticated (please do not ask). More information can be found in the descriptions of each item.

March 23, 2011 - Gwen Stefani donated $1,000,000 today to Save the Children’s Japan Earthquake-Tsunami Children in Emergency Fund to help in the relief and recovery effort in Japan.

The disaster in Japan is beyond heartbreaking and I want to do anything I can to help. I would never be able to make a gesture like this without the love and support of all the fans over all these years.”

Gwen has not only made a personal donation but created a mechanism whereby her fans will be able to participate in her efforts. A charity auction will be announced next week where fans can bid on the chance to join Gwen at a special fundraiser in Los Angeles. Also available next week, a limited edition Harajuku Lovers T-shirt designed by Gwen will be available through nodoubt.com with 100% of proceeds benefiting the relief effort in Japan. Plans for further fundraising initiatives are also in current discussion.

Gwen Stefani's History with Japan

Gwen Stefani has been inspired by Japan since she first toured there with No Doubt in 1996. Not only did she immediately fall in love with the country and it's people, Gwen found a special connection to a district in Tokyo known as Harajuku, an area that thrives on creativity, music, art and fashion. The youth culture of the Harajuku district have been a constant muse for Gwen, inspiring both her clothing line called Harajuku Lovers and the song "Harajuku Girls." Throughout her career Gwen has borrowed heavily from Japanese culture for many of her creative endeavors.

About Save the Children’s response to children and families affected by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan:

Disaster Impact on Children:

Save the Children is the leading, independent organization that creates lasting change for children in need in the United States and around the world. Children are always among the most vulnerable during emergencies. Children in the hardest-hit areas are in need of basic supplies such as food and clean water. With concerns over nuclear safety, there is a risk that problems with supply lines could grow worse. In addition, initial assessments have confirmed that over 5,500 schools have been damaged and it is anticipated that the opening of schools for the new term on April 5 will be delayed.

Conditions facing children and families are so extreme that they are developing a three-year strategy—based on their initial on-scene assessments—to first help provide essential relief items and launch child protection activities, and then help restore children’s sense of security and normalcy and advocate for their inclusion in emergency preparedness planning.

No Doubt are in the studio working on a new album, their seventh
studio release. If you've seen the studio photos and updates the band have
been sending via Twitter, you know they have written nine songs so far and
are thrilled with the progress they're making. No Doubt can't wait to share
the new record with everyone in 2011.

No Doubt will have a new catalog release in 2010 for fans that are looking
for a lower priced greatest hits collection. The album will be part of the
Icon series which features greatest hits and favorites from the most popular
artists in music for just $7.98.

"With the band recording a new record for next year we felt it was a good
idea to remind everyone of the great music No Doubt has made over the years.
We feel the Icon release of No Doubt's greatest hits is an extremely low
cost way to turn a lot of new people on to the band's great music," said the
band's manager Jim Guerinot.

The No Doubt Icon release will feature the same track listing as the Singles
Collection, including "It's My Life," "Just A Girl," and "Hey Baby," but
with new artwork and at the lower price. The No Doubt Icon release will be
available online and in stores November 2, 2010.

They can live a full life with HIV instead of dying from AIDS.

On December 9th, Rock Band will release songs from No Doubt's The Singles Collection. Thirteen tracks will be available for download on the Rock Band website as a full album or single song download.
